How to increase your auction hits using the Analysis tools?

Ok, lets put Hot Item Finder to good use with all of your current auctions. You can increase your auction hits by using the Analysis tools in Hot Item Finder.

First you need to find out which category to post your auction...see the "How to find the best category to list your auction?"

Now lets spice up your auction titles and descriptions to start getting those profit pounding HITS!...

Lets use the same example as in the "How to find the best category to list your auction?" how to page, where you are interested in selling dog coats.

Go to the 'Popular Searches' tool in the 'Analysis' section as shown below.

  1. Select the 'eBay Sellers Central' option from the Data Source drop down menu.
  2. Click the 'Update' button.
  3. Click the 'Pet Supplies' sub-category under the 'Home' main category.

And ... also do the following:

  1. Select the 'eBay Pulse' option from the Data Source drop down menu.
  2. Click the 'Update' button.
  3. Click the 'home & garden' main category.

And finally, also consider the top 10 keywords for all categories. I conveniently included it below. You can find these popular searches by simply clicking the 'Top 100' category in the treeview window using both data sources.

Ok...now you have 4 sets of popular search terms to use in your auction titles and descriptions. These search terms are what I like to call, "Highly Targeted eBay Keywords". You should concentrate on populating your auction titles and descriptions with these words.

But remember...don't spam your description with these words, you have to use them in sentences that make sense. eBay has strict rules against keyword spamming. You can read about eBay's keyword spamming policy here (opens in new window).

Here are some auction title examples you could use: (note that your auction titles can only be a maximum of 55 characters)

  • Dog Coats, pink, white, blue with all the tools. No Res, n/r
  • Treat your Dog like a Queen, coats for all dogs, pink, white blue
  • Protect your dogs hair with dog shirts and protect your rug from dog hair

You get the idea, you can be very creative with these keywords. Try a few variations, you will be surprised how fast your creative juices will start flowing.

Well, lets keep going...you can make use of the 'Keyword Search' tool in the 'Analysis' section to find additional top popular search terms as well as top phrases that use those keywords. This can help you figure out how to write your auction titles.

Go to to the 'Keyword Search' tool in the 'Analysis' section and follow the steps:

  1. Enter the word, 'dog' in the Search Term text box.
  2. Click the 'Search' button.
  3. Click the word 'Dog' in the 'eBay Keyword Match' list.

Now you can view several top searches by fellow eBay users for the word 'Dog'. Try incorporating these phrases into your auction titles and descriptions.

Ok...one more handy way to generate those highly targeted ebay keywords.

go back to the 'Popular Searches' tool in the 'Analysis' section and generate all the popular searches again. Then click the 'Home & Garden' main category.

Then save the keywords as a 'Keywords Search File' using the 'Save' toolbar button as shown below:

Go ahead and save the file as keywords.txt. Now go to the 'Keyword Search' tool again and load the keywords.txt using the following steps:

  1. Click the 'From File' radio button.
  2. Click the 'Browse' button and load your saved keywrods.txt file.
  3. Click the 'Search' button to get Hot Item Finder to collect all the related keywords from eBay's keyword database.
  4. Click the word 'Rug' in the 'eBay Keyword Match' list.

What this does is generate more keywords from eBay based on the keywords in the popular searches file. Here you can find additional words to place in your auction titles.

For example, I used the word 'rug' in the suggested auction titles I made up in this how to report. (See them above).

So I can further enhance the auction title from above:

Before: Treat your Dog like a Queen, coats for all dogs, pink, white, blue

After: Treat your Dog like a Queen, hide his rug, coats for all dogs, pink, white, blue

Maybe that example was not that great but you can get the idea. Try this technique to completely enhance your auction titles and descriptions.
