Hey Friend,
Ok,
we have covered all the basics from how to bid to effectively listing
items on eBay as well as useful tools to help you on the way...
This lesson is VERY
IMPORTANT!
I cannot stress the importance of creating killer titles and descriptions
that will sell your product or service on eBay.
You should consider your auction listing as your website, or as your
sales copy, or your personal sales person. In order to succeed in auctions,
you have to do the same thing. Know what your customer wants and then
speak to him or her on a one-to-one level.
Competition is keen. With millions of available items to bid on, you
must capture the attention of buyers if you plan to succeed. And that’s
not all. You have to be able to answer that all-important question in
the buyer’s mind,
What’s in it for me? Distinguish your auction listing from your
competitor’s by mastering the following marketing skills.
Get Inside The Buyers Head!
Try to put yourself in the buyers position and simply ask yourself,
"would I buy this product?", if so, "what to I expect
to gain?".
Ask yourself these questions over and over again while you are writing
your auction titles and descriptions and make sure you are satisfied
as a buyer ... it will make a world of difference!
Get Your Buyer's Attention!
The most crucial attention-grabber of your auction listing is the title
or sometimes referred to as the auction headline.
In fact, it is well-known that nearly 90% of eBay consumers will only search in the auction titles. In other words, they do not select that little checkbox located under the search bar named "Search title and description". I included a screenshot image below so you know what I am referring to ...

In fact ... many ebay searchers have no idea what that little checkbox means and therefore never use it. When that checkbox is selected, eBay will search in BOTH auction titles and descriptions. If it is NOT selected, then ebay will ONLY search the auction titles.
So what's my point here ...
The important point I am trying to emphasize, is your auction title is VERY IMPORTANT! and not as important as your auction description in terms of getting traffic to your auction listings.
Think about it ... you can have the best auction description on the planet, but if nobody comes to your auction ... then its useless. That's like building the best 5 star resort in the middle of the desert with no access roads or airports!
Your headline must provide the wants or desires of the buyer to make
the sale. For example, a person will gladly go out for dinner and spend
$50, but refuse to spend $30 on vitamins. If these people were convinced
that they would live an extra ten years in perfect health if they bought
the vitamins, do you think they would buy? Of course they would!
If you are able to meet the wants of a customer, you will make the
sale. Price is not the deciding factor in most cases.
Use attention-grabbing words such as: RARE, LIMITED-EDITION, UNIQUE,
ONE-OF-A-KIND, BEAUTIFUL or UNBELIEVABLE, STUNNING, AWESOME.
Here are 7 great types of headlines you can use:
1. Promise a Major Benefit
Double Your Computer’s Speed For Only $5.95!
2. Ask a Question
Whenever we create curiosity, we tempt our customer to read further...
Lose 80 Pounds In One Month? Guaranteed?
3. Offer a Solution to a Problem This is the pain
and gain headline. By offering your customer a solution, she automatically
recognizes her problem...
Stop Snoring With Snorenz - Saves Marriages!!
4. Give a Warning
If You Have A Pre-Schooler, You Need This! This headline creates anxiety,
and the anxiety grows if the customer doesn’t bother to read more.
5. Flag Your Target Customer
Build & Repair Computers Like A Pro!
6. Use a Testimonial
These kinds of headlines are rare on auction sites except when used
for selling work by famous people...
Ted Williams personal model signed Bat
7. News Announcement
You can find an occasional headline that follows this format on auction
sites...You Read About ‘em - Now Get ‘em! STATE QUARTERS

GET MASSIVE HITS to YOUR Auctions!
Another very important factor, it to put highly targeted keywords in
your headlines. What I mean is, popular search terms that fellow eBay
buyer's enter into eBay's search tool to find products they want...
There are a few ways to generate these highly targeted keywords as
well as determine keywords that have high value, i.e. produce large
number of bids.
I designed a Popular search term tool in the Hot Item Finder software
that collects ALL the popular search terms for EVERY main and sub-main
eBay category!
There is also a Keyword Search tool that searches eBay's online keyword
database returning popular search phrases that contain certain keywords.
Using the words generated from these tools, you can get tremendous
traffic to your auction listings.
Also, there is a new Word Count tool that generates a report
summarizing the frequency that certain words appear in the titles of
your Hot Item Lists. A simple comparison is done with the number of
bids and the value of these words are revealed...
Use the most valuable words in your descriptions plus targeted keywords
in conjunction with the Headline Creator Pro and watch your hits roll
in!
Here is the special discount link only offered to the subscribers of
this newsletter.
Make sure you include counters on your auctions and monitor which
auctions produce the highest number of hits and reuse those headlines in future auction
listings.
Another great and free tool you can use that gives you an idea of how
the popularity of certain keywords search in all the major search engines,
is the Wordtracker FREE keyword Suggestion Tool.
Simply enter your product name, or related keywords. For example, say
I am selling laser printers, enter the term "printers" and
a large list of commonly search keywords and phrases are returned.
At the time I wrote this lesson, the top 6 keywords were:
| 2171 |
hp printers |
| 1216 |
printers |
| 1181 |
printer |
| 1151 |
hp printer drivers |
| 1008 |
printer ink |
| 989 |
epson printers |
where the number represents the number of times the corresponding keyword
or phrase has been searched in the past month on all the major search
engines. I heard rumors that these numbers are inflated, but they still
give you an idea of what targeted popular terms you should be including
in your titles and descriptions.
QUICK TIP
Be positive rather than negative

Positive statements are allot more powerful than negative ones!
Polish your Auction Descriptions with HTML
I have to admit, At first I was scared to learn how to use HTML, but
trust me it is pretty easy and there are many tools to help you on your
way.
Here is a very inexpensive HTML editor that includes a complete basic
HTML tutorial in the help section: Click
Here
I designed this software when I was first learning HTML, and it helped
me immensely when designing my auction descriptions.
If you want a more advanced free html editor ... this is one of the best free html editor online today:

The 2 MOST important features of your Auction Description
Make sure your FIRST line in your description is a powerful headline
with targeted popular search terms. AND make the font BIG, around 5
or 6 for regular Aerial font. This is the key to your success.
You only have a few seconds to sell your product, a buyer will glance
at the first sentence (your description headline) and then go directly
to the bottom...this is where you MUST put another call-to-action.
Put a PS, and a PPS at the bottom with another headline with a call-to-action
statement. What I mean by call-to-action is for example, "Buy NOW
before the price increases", "Stop wasting your valuable time
and save 1000's" ..ect. Basically tell your viewer to buy your
product NOW.
These are the most important parts of your auction description.
Next make sure to include all the shipping details, more the better.
If you are unsure, check out similar auctions and see what your competitors
are charging for shipping or simply use eBay's shipping tool to
get the exact values.
Including some sort of guarantee or warranty goes a LONG way, trust
me, this will separate your auctions from your competitors FAST!.
Add pictures and attractive galleries to your auctions ...
ALWAYS include pictures of your product in your description. Take advantage
of eBay's single picture free hosting.
BUT ... since eBay is getting more and more competitive, you should consider taking your auctions to the next level!
With eBay being the easiest way to make money online, and with so much money to be made, that's to be expected.
When you sell an item and make little (if any) profit, does it make you want to scream?
Some eBay sellers think price is the only way to compete. That's simply untrue.
You need to learn about a MUCH BETTER and MORE profitable way.
How would you like access to a collection of tools that allow you to crush your competition?
Use AuctionTNT !!
There is a service offered by a friend of mine, Mike Enos, called AuctionTNT. In this service, you can do the following:

Another place to host your
pictures is with Auctiva: http://www.auctiva.com
They provide very free options for hosting 100's of images.
Use a digital camera to take pictures of your products, if you don't
have one or cannot afford one, purchase a web camera ... they usually
only cost around $20-$30 and they take still photos. That is what I
used for all my photo's for the first 6 months!
Use Stories
When possible, tell stories. People can relate to stories and put themselves
in other people's position to be convinced to purchase a product.
AND ... Add Bonuses
Whenever possible add bonuses to entice your buyers, this method also
stomps your competition. For example, if you are selling a weight loss
product, include a weight loss ebook for free. You can obtain 100's
of free ebooks online, as well as purchase them. Most ebooks are very
inexpensive and your return on investment will be worth it.
